Hello, Navneet Anand ‘s answer is not going to help you one iota, but this will. If the issue still persists, then I would suggest you to uninstall and re-install the Audio drivers in compatibility mode.
Click on Hardware and Sound and select Playing Audio and click on next and follow the on-screen instructions. It worked perfectly fine for me, after days and days fighting with this problem.
